Why Do You Need a 100-year Plan for Your Life?

Without vision, people perish. I don’t remember who said this originally, but it is absolutely true.

Why do you wake up each day, and do what you do? Just to survive, or do you want to accomplish something you dreamed about last night, or a while ago?

I consider myself an over-achiever, constantly living in the zone of doing something important and urgent at the same time. I want to have the perfect wheel of life. But living in this zone causes a lot of stress, or what I would call challenge.

Having a lot of stress in life, even with massive achievement, can still leave you unhappy. Sometimes I simply want to have a day that I don’t think of or do anything. I think some of you would like that too.

Stress comes from urgency. The urgency of a deadline.

If a project takes 5 years to finish, but you must finish it within 1 year, there will be some or a lot of stress. And even if you end up finishing it within 1 year and half, which is freakin’ amazing, you would probably still feel not so happy because you “underperformed” according to the expectation.

So how about taking a few days or weeks, using all the time you can spare besides the musts you need to do every day, to design a 100-year plan for your life?

With 100 years, you can accomplish tons of things, have multiple amazing careers/businesses/adventures, and travel to every corner of this earth (and maybe even Mars because by then the technology will most likely make it possible).

Give yourself enough time so that it does not feel like an urgent task to you right now, and then take your time and do every step right.

From 2020, one of my new rules is that I will always do what is right, not just what works. Have a 100-year plan (I believe I will live up to 200 years on this planet with absolute certainty), then come back to the first half-century, and then the first 25 years, and then the first 10 years, and then the first 5 years, and then create the 2020 vision & plan for yourself.

Having a grand vision of what life you want to have in the next 100 years can excite you and really give you some strong drive to wake up every morning and move towards that vision steadily, happily, and without stress.
